The quest to find the ideal trampoline with the best feature and bargain: If you are like me, a research fanatic when it comes to buying things online, there’s a fine line between great bargains and quality when it comes to trampoline. I am a former gymnast and now a stay home mom of 5 small children and have been looking for a trampoline for the last 6 months. I have read blogs after blogs, reviews, specs. I have to tell you, I am now an expert in this field. I know everything there is about it, from steel gauge to spring compression to net frame structure, to mat grade. Before purchasing a trampoline, ask yourself some very important questions. Are you looking for a trampoline for a long term basis where your kids will grow into or is it one to just entertain them for a season or 2? Is safety a key concern? Is this trampoline mainly for teenagers, small kids, or mixed family use? Are you going to have mulit jumpers in there? Is the quality more important or are you looking for just an economy type trampoline without the bells and whistles.

If pricing is a key concern and you’re plainly on using it for maybe just a year or 2, I would highly recommend buying a unit at a local sporting goods or department stores. I believe you can get like a 12′ footer combo set for like $300. However, if you’re looking for something more long term, something with more features, than read further.

Before you buy a trampoline, find a company that offers a long warranty. That means they are confident about their product. The most expensive part of a trampoline is the steel frame. it’s probably about two third of the cost. If you search hard enough, you may find someone with a 5 year warranty on the frame. Springs and mat are very replaceable and are inexpensive. Same goes for the net and weather cover. Make sure the steels and springs are fully galvanized so it won’t rust. The more springs the better the bounce. However, the trick with the more springs is if the frame is weak, it will bend or break through time. So be on the look out for gauge size. With gauge, the smaller the number, the stronger the steel. That’s an explanation for another time. Make sure the mat is non-abrasive, USA made, otherwise it will scratch your kid’s sensitive skin. They will feel the burn if they’re high in the air and come tumbling down on their knees.

To determine if a round or rectangle trampoline is right for you is another huge research project. I have had both and definitely prefer the rectangle. As the kids get better and older, the rectangle allows you to do more tricks. It has a much more stable bounce. You bounce straight up and don’t lose control. This allows you to have more than 1 person in it, although they don’t recommend it. The round one, the greatest bounce is generally at the middle.

If you are debating between different sizes, always consider your kid will eventually outgrow it fast and they get bigger and more advance.
